Jacksonian Democracy

In order to understand the mystique of Jackson's presidency and the deceptively tumultuous times under his presidency, we must analyze many things. His actions, statements, philosophy on government give us insight into the times. Were these times truly democratic? Was Jackson a supporter of the common man? Was the country growing together or apart and why? We will be answering these questions as we study Andrew Jackson the man and Andrew Jackson the legend.

Statement: Andrew Jackson and his supporters were unfair and inconsistent in their advocation of majority rule and the supremacy of the federal government.

Assess the validity of this criticism in the cases of the spoils system, the recharter of the Bank, the Indian Remoaval policy, and the nullification controversy.
